The Chamonix valley as an attractive destination
Chamonix is a city known to all and which attracts many visitors summer and winter by its natural panorama between the Mont-Blanc massif and the Aiguilles Rouges massif. Its natural setting between mountains, glaciers and green spaces makes the Chamonix valley a unique place appreciated by nature lovers. With more than 4.5 million visitors per year, the valley is an attractive area that must be protected to preserve this unique heritage.
Chamonix's long-term commitment
The Flocon Vert label was awarded in 2013 for the resort and has been renewed thereafter. For a few years now, the valley has wanted to limit its environmental impact, through eco-responsible decisions and actions, in order to act sustainably for tomorrow.
Thanks to this label, actions have been developed around transport and governance.
The valley offers a free circulation to move around easily thanks to transport: bus and train lines, and even a transport on demand service for the most isolated places, making it possible to easily connect the whole valley to the important places of the basin.
As far as governance is concerned, the communes of the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc valley have been committed since 2009 to a Territorial Climate and Energy Plan. This plan is based on two components, the first with a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, the second with an adaptation of the territory to the evolution of climate change with the communes and actors of the valley. These actions are developed on 5 axes, in order to achieve the implementation of the Territorial Climate Energy Plan:
- Urbanism and Habitat
- Consumption and Waste
- Tourism and Awareness
- Biodiversity
- Natural areas
- Transport and travel
