Did you know that the textile industry is the 2nd most polluting industry in the world?
That's why Alpinstore is committed with environmentally sensitive brands to preserve tomorrow's world.
Recyclable materials are one of the options available to you to limit its environmental impact, favouring products made from recycled materials! Turning waste into a resource, to create technically efficient and responsible products, is possible!
Polyester is a material created from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic. Instead of re-manufacturing PET, brands are developing processes to incorporate recycled polyester, also known as rPET, into the manufacture of their products.
In the design of this material, there are two different processes for waste recycling:
The first " post-consumer " technique, which uses household waste (such as plastic bottles) or the recycling of clothing.
The second, known as " post-industrial" , is the reuse of waste from product manufacturing stages, for example with scraps, end-of-life products, or products with defects. ODLO Active technical underwear are composed of 100% recycled polyester.
To illustrate this technique, here is a video from Picture to explain how the steps involved in the transformation of plastic bottles into textiles:
"Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed" A. Lavoisier
Have you ever heard of upcycling (overcycling in French)? It's the act of upgrading products or materials by turning them into new, high-quality parts!
Recycling nylon from old fishing nets creates high quality polyamide yarn. This transformation helps to limit waste in the oceans while creating technical and functional products.
In short, the use of recycled fibres makes it possible to reduce waste and limit the creation of unnecessary raw materials. This is a first step in committing to an eco-friendly approach for more sustainable fashion. So choose ecofriendly Patagonia products or Picture for your outdoor adventures.
