Arva is a responsible company and once again offers a DVA made in France, its manufacturing process is done between Haute Savoie, Besançon, Cleurie and Grenoble.

Test conditions

Search for 1 and 2 victims in test condition at the massif de Balme in La Clusaz. Testing the menus, isolating the victims. Switching from transmit to receive mode... 1 victim detection made beyond 60 meters.

Assets of Arva Axio

- Ease of use. A digital screen, easy menu navigation, wide search range. Tested in full sun on snow, the screen is very easy to read (even with polarized sunglasses).

- When you turn it on in transmit mode, it gives you the battery status, then ok, the "Group check" function appears and then an arrow flashes, the device switches to transmit mode.

- Group check" function

- In reception mode the search width is 60 meters thanks to a 3rd deployable antenna to improve the search, it improves the management of interferences (that of the DVA, smartphone, pylon ...). The search for victims can be done in length, width and height. We talk about circular search, it is no longer necessary to scan the axes.

Vertical search mode, allows a more precise search.

- The 3 antennas allow a spherical search, which improves accuracy and allows a better search for victims. It is a search on a 3D x,y,z plane.

- Deploying the 3rd antenna automatically switches the device into search mode (provided it is switched on).

- Multi-victim detection with a list that can also be browsed.

In the lower left corner you can see 2 men, the device has identified 2 victims.

- The device makes it very easy to isolate the victims

- Menu navigation which is done with 2 buttons: the "on" button on the side to access the menu, a joystick to navigate and make changes. The up and down arrows of the joystick scroll through the menu, the central button gives access to each category, the left and right arrows scroll through the proposed options. Changes are validated with the central button.

- The different menus: analogue search (for the PGHM in case of search with noise especially in helicopter) or digital search (default mode to be used); marking function for victims of 3 or 5 meters, standby function, the setting in "off" is done by the menu (so that it does not turn off on itself by involuntary pressure), switching to transmission mode (when in search mode, in case the antenna would break).

- Motion detection when in search mode and not moving (avalanche safety).

Conclusion

TheArva Axio is an easy-to-use, high-end avalanche victim detector for professionals, experienced ski tourers and group leaders. It is equipped with a digital display, it allows: the search for multiple victims and to isolate them; its search band is 60 meters. Finally a 3 dimensional search thanks to the 3 antennas, operating in simultaneous mode.
