Lafuma: presentation of an eco-responsible brand

Away has never been so close, it's a truth to remember in our hectic lives: escaping is not difficult! Far away is even within reach and Lafuma accompanies you in all your plans to get some fresh air. The journey is often simple, one foot in front of the other, and you escape from your everyday life, a conquest of space achieved with humble means, with ingenious products that we take care to design here, in our workshops.

Away has never been so close, which is also why we preserve the environment. Sustainable development is a priority that we express from the choice of our raw materials to the Sea of Ice that we clean every year. It is the commitment of an entire team to be faithful to its values, to the history of the brand and to an almost century-old spirit.

1) A development entirely owned by Lafuma

Textiles, backpacks, footwear, material tests, prototypes, field tests, Lafuma controls the entire development chain. "It's a team effort involving several different professions. These interactions make our product developments richer," explains Renaud Menozzi, brand manager. The Shift GTX jacket, for example, aims to be a high-performance Gore-Tex® jacket while remaining light and affordable. In order to respect all these criteria, which are a priori incompatible, "we rely on our expertise in pattern making in order to optimise the pattern, to minimise material losses and to tick all the initial parameters of the project".

A state-of-the-art testing laboratory: One of the keys for a manufacturer of outdoor products is precisely... the quality of the textile. Benoit Huiban is in charge of testing these materials, from abrasion to washing behaviour. All selected materials are tested to ensure that they comply with Lafuma's quality standards. "We check all the materials we choose for product development. I check that we meet our requirements in relation to the standards in force. For example, standards for waterproofing, abrasion resistance or the shrinkage of a t-shirt (its shrinkage when washed)," he explains.

2) Develop for you 4-season products that you can use for different purposes

3-in-1 jackets: The ability to choose insulation for your jacket gives both comfort and style. So all the protective jackets with removable lining have an identical zip fastening system that allows you to change the interior insulation. "The advantage is to control your thermal comfort", explains Aurélie Vignot, product manager, "it allows you to adapt to temperature variations with the seasons and to your activity, more or less intense".

4-season backpacks:

What would the all-season bag look like if it was suitable for daytime sports? This is the big question that the designers of the Access 35 Crossover, Clément and Yoann, asked themselves at the very beginning of its development. The answer lies in a sober design, a back access, a back designed for carrying and multi-purpose straps, all on a compact 35-litre volume.

Comfortable duvets adapted to your activities with also 3 in 1:

NO MATTER WHAT DEGREE I YOU SLEEP IN, NO MATTER WHERE YOU SLEEP AND NO MATTER WHAT TIME OF YEAR, WITH THE ACTIVE 3 IN 1 YOU DON'T HAVE ONE SLEEPING BAG BUT THREE FOR GOOD INSULATION.

10°+5°=0° The inner bag allows you to sleep with a comfort temperature of 10°C, the outer bag allows you to go down to 5°C and the two handsets reach 0°C.

Travel anywhere in comfort:

A shoe with spirit travels at ease on all terrains, in the snowy streets of your city as well as on a welcoming path of prealps during this long autumn weekend. This shoe, available in a feminine version, concentrates the essence of the Lafuma spirit which, from one step to the next, takes you on a journey without looking like one...

3) Protecting the environment

For more than 20 years, and a first partnership with the association France Nature Environnement in 1992, we have been reducing our impact on the environment. For 2020, we have even more ambitious goals...

I magined by Lafuma, the EcoLife label is a set of product development constraints to reduce the impact on the environment without limiting the performance and use of products. We can sum up by saying that it is a decision-making tool during the development phase," explains Vanessa Lappassat, in charge of sustainable development, "Ecolife is very demanding because it is based on the ratio between the weight of low impact materials or Bluesign® and the weight of the product and not only on the number of low impact materials". Thus the FastTrack jacket uses Bluesign® certified outer material, recycled inner material and a filling based on corn derivatives.

We even upcycle by giving a second wind to the used clothing that Lafuma recovers or damaged and therefore unsaleable products. Two structures, OWL (Outdoor Waste Lab) and EastCamp, make new out of old, like this handbag made from a comforter.
