Each year Lafuma commits to cleaning up the sea of ice

It's a bit like a treasure hunt, you move forward curved towards the ground, your eye on the lookout for the metal washer, the piece of leather, the cable filament and sometimes a more original object comes to delight the researcher: an ancestral Italian telephone token, a ski stick washer from the 50's. "My most beautiful find is this little medal from the French Alpine Club! It's astonishing that after 8 years of cleaning, there is still so much debris and bits of cable," explains Mariel, Lafuma's Human Resources Director. In partnership with the CAF (French Alpine Club), the Chamonix Town Hall, theUCPA, the Cie du MontBlanc and Mountain Riders, Lafuma employees collect about 2 tons of waste, which is collected in large bags that are removed by helicopter. An indispensable ant job. A concrete and visible action. That's what sustainable development is all about.

THE OUTDOOR CLEANING PROGRAM :

This is the European version of the Sea of Ice cleaning program launched in 2016. The objective for 2020 is to organise two dates, in summer and winter, in each country where Lafuma operates.

This is a unique operation of its kind, and we are also able to involve local players and associations. It's an operation that is growing and evolving, but with the same objective: to collect and raise awareness. It is also an initiative that is part of a more ambitious European-level program to protect our playgrounds: the Outdoor Cleaning Program.
