Giro, the leading brand of head protection ( masks and helmets) for winter sports, has announced a new technology, VIVID, for its lenses. VIVID lenses are the newest 2017/2018 product at Giro and will be present on Contact, Axis, Onset, Compass, Field, Balance and Blokmodels.
This technology has been developed in partnership with ZEISS optics which is one of the pillars of the optical sector in terms of quality. This technology is based on decades of research and studies on the visual experience on snow. This has resulted in a lens that improves contrast, reduces fatigue, improves skier reaction time and offers precise vision without color saturation.
It has long been believed that blue light was bad for good vision on snow, so conventional goggles and sunglasses were designed to eliminate it. But snow is not white. As the most reflective surface on Earth, snow is actually blue. Research by Giro and ZEISS revealed that blue light is fundamental to good vision. Therefore, VIVID technology effectively manipulates blue light by increasing it and blocking harmful UV light to ensure the best possible vision.
