All about the interference with his Arva...

The democratization of electronic devices (smartphones, digital radios, GPS, cameras, etc.) may have consequences on the quality of research. ARVA. Indeed these devices can create interference that covers a wide spectrum of frequencies including 457kHz, the frequency used by DVAs. For a device in search mode, the portion of the interference that is on the 457kHz may be mistaken for the distant signal from a transmitter, and therefore the device may momentarily display a distance and direction indication corresponding to this interference.

To avoid this phenomenon several actions are possible:

- reducing the level of interference by switching off as many electronic devices as possible on board and/or by moving away from metal infrastructures when possible

- switch to analog mode for devices that allow it, allowing the ear to discern a real signal (characterized by a succession of beeps) from a phantom signal (absence of stable beeps) and perform a microstrip search.

- reduce the search bandwidth to better "filter" interference from the device by software development. Software available on AXIS, LINK, PROW 5.0, NEO 3.0 and AXIO 1.5.

IN ISSUE

Keep all metal and electronic equipment at least 20 cm away from the DVA.

IN RECEPTION.

Keep all metallic and electronic equipment at least 50 cm away from the DVA. It is recommended for people on an active search to turn off all devices except :

- Analogue radio

- Headlamp without auto dimmer

- Watch without radio function

- Back up devices in case of a second avalanche.

DIGITAL COMMUNICATION DEVICES

It is advisable to switch off digital telephones and radios during the active search phase. It is advisable to make all telephone or radio calls at least 25 m away from the searchers.
