Skitrab: a family business at the cutting edge of technology

Factory visit to our supplier Skitrab

When you arrive at Skitrab it's just like home. The Trabucci family has set up the plant next to the family chalet at the foot of the slopes of the Italian ski resort of Bormio and also close to Passo Stelvio.

The made in Bormio they are ski touring products adapted to the practice of each one: enthusiasts / competitors / ski clubs... A key word is the quality of the products

To sum up Skitrab is the art of ski mountaineering in competition and for the general public.

A family at the cutting edge of technology

The family Trab knows everything about ski touring and knows that to innovate in the field you have to be at the cutting edge of technology. Daniele Trabucci, in charge of development, explains some of the aspects:

- "In order to design a binding, it must fit the shoes. For that we scan all the shoes computerized, the data processing allows us to know all specificities of each shoe (ex: La Sportiva / Scarpa...)".

- Before putting a ski into production we carry out a large number of tests such as durability, resistance of the ski... in order to ensure that it meets our specifications and therefore the needs of our customers.

- "Our specifications comply with standards such as ISO 9001 even though Skitrab is not yet certified. This is important to make sure that our product meets what we want to do.

Light skis with 14 layers

For Adriano Trabucci "making light skis is easy". "Making quality light skis is much more complicated".

Our competitors use light materials and their skis are only 6 to 7 layers maximum. However, many competitors are not able to finish the mythical Pierra Menta with the same pair of skis (4 days of competition).

Our skis are designed with 14 layers so that they are durable and that they answer to each ski practice: competition / training / leisure... Width and gender are also taken into account when designing a product.

The Skitrab competition and high-end are designed with Lightweight technology, which is very light material with a honeycomb structure. These are materials that are difficult to work with but important to make a quality ski.

A production from A to Z

The Skitrab are entirely produced in Bormio. The process goes from design to production. The company carries out all the controls. The 14 layers are stored meticulously. Drying times are respected between coats.

At the end of the process, the ski passes to the quality control and receives a note which is written on the ski. Skitrab only sells those that meet their specifications to perfection.

Marketing

Our visit is made by Marco Colombo in charge of marketing for Skitrab which explains the importance of knowing how to make quality products. "It's theDNA of the brand and that's just what we want to do. We do the same thing with our subcontractors for the manufacture of our helmets, gloves, sticks... All our accessories meet a set of specifications".

Skitrab is involved in ski mountaineering and wishes to sponsor multiple athletes so that the brand can be represented on international circuits. It is important to have visibility.
