Test DYNAFIT Sky Pro 2020 — complete test and verdict ALPINSTORE

Test DYNAFIT Sky Pro: our field test

Since August, we have had the chance to test the new Sky Pro from DYNAFIT. It is a trail running shoe designed for high mountain practitioners: lightweight, protective, and surprisingly versatile. We’ll tell you everything, like friends on a rope around a coffee at the hut.

Before diving into the technical details, a word about our selection: at ALPINSTORE we offer a selection of hiking and trail shoes that is rigorous: each pair is tested in the field by our team. We don’t sell promises; we offer solutions that hold the slope.

Where and how we tested the Sky Pro

We covered more than 100 kilometers with the Sky Pro, on very varied profiles. The idea: to push the shoe to its limits to evaluate grip, comfort, protection, and durability.

  • Snowy and steep above the Veny valley (Monte Bianco);
  • descent on rocky and wet terrain at Parmelan, Haute Savoie;
  • steep high mountain terrain at the foot of the Vanoise glaciers, above Bonneval sur Arc.

This mix of routes allowed us to evaluate the shoe on snow, mud, stones, and streams. Result: the Sky Pro delivers.

Grip and sole: the VIBRAM surprise

What we particularly liked is the grip, regardless of the supports. The VIBRAM sole offers a lively grip on wet rock and enough traction on packed snow. You can let loose on descents without worrying with every step. The confidence that the sole provides changes the reading of the terrain.

In practice, the architecture of the lugs is well thought out: they bite into the surface, clean easily, and remain stable on unstable and wet terrain. If you’re looking for high-performance trail spikes for your mixed outings, the Sky Pro is a reliable base to attach accessories if needed.

Comfort, weight, and protection

The Sky Pro is lightweight: only 280 grams on the scale. On paper, it sounds like a performance shoe, but in the field, it is also a protective shoe. The toe box is structured without being rigid, and the midsole absorbs irregularities without crushing you on the ascent.

The integrated gaiter is a real plus for running in mud or light snow: it limits the entry of debris and keeps your feet dry when crossing a stream. The quick lacing system is precise and allows for quick micro-adjustments during effort. In short, comfort and support are on point.

Durability and long-term behavior

After more than 100 km, the sole shows no signs of major fatigue. The materials hold up well, even in abrasive passages. It’s a shoe designed to last: you can feel that DYNAFIT has worked on the compromise between weight and robustness. If you want to buy trail shoes for regular use in the mountains, the Sky Pro is worth the detour.

For whom? For what?

Are you a mountain runner looking for versatility and lightness? Do you ski tour in winter and want a pair for summer training? The Sky Pro clearly targets adventurers who go high and want a shoe capable of keeping up on technical terrain. We recommend it for fast outings, short ridge races, and training where the terrain varies constantly.

If your use is exclusively on rolling paths and asphalt, other profiles will perform better, but for the mountains, the Sky Pro holds up very well.

Condensed technical sheet

  • weight: 280 grams (per shoe);
  • integrated gaiter for protection;
  • VIBRAM sole for grip on mixed rocky and snowy terrain;
  • quick lacing for dynamic adjustment.

We advise you to test your size in-store if possible: the heel hold is precise, but depending on foot morphology, it may be useful to refine the size.

Final impressions and verdict

The DYNAFIT Sky Pro test convinced us with its versatility and ability to reassure on technical terrain. The VIBRAM grip, support, lightness, and integrated gaiter form a coherent package: a shoe that allows you to attack without compromise. It’s not perfect: on very long ultra-distance runs, some may prefer more cushioning, but for high mountains and committed outings, it’s an excellent choice.

If your goal is to buy trail shoes for tackling alpine pastures, or if you simply want to upgrade your pair for winter and mixed terrains, the Sky Pro is a serious option. We recommend it for technical runners, lightweight climbers, and adventurers who want a reliable and robust pair.
