THERMAREST : The inventor of the insulating mattress

It all began in 1971 when John Burrough, a renowned alipinist, became aware of the lack of quality in mattresses at the time.
It is then that with other alpinists like Jim Lea, they founded Cascade Designs. The same year, the first insulating mattress called Thermarest (understand Therm-A-Rest) was released.


Once the patent was filed, the company kept on pushing the search for the best mattress.
At the forefront of innovation, the Thermarest brand is now the leader in hiking mats.


The range of products is now much wider, from floor mats to duvets, without forgetting pillows and other cots.

Even today the mattresses (self-inflating or foam) are made in Ireland. The choice to keep as much of their production in-house as possible has been a deliberate choice since 1972.
