ABS Avalanche Airbag

airbag ABS avalanche

Presentation

ABS is the most reliable and high-performance triggering and inflating system. It is a simple phenomenon: if granular particles are in motion at the same time, the larger ones are pushed to the surface. This is what happens when an avalanche is in motion.

In order not to plunge back into the avalanche you add 1.5 times your body volume. The extra 170 litres of a triggered ABS Airbag gives you the necessary climbing force to stay on the surface.

The ABSsystem

Both airbags of an ABS bag are attached to the side. A principle that has proven its worth over the last 15 years. It ensures that the natural centre of gravity of your body is not altered and that the upward force is exerted over the whole body. With the ABS an avalanche victim is held in a horizontal position in the upper part of the moving snow mass. The flatter a person is on an avalanche, the less likely he or she is to be hurt in an avalanche.

Two airbags = double safety

Genuine ABS consists of 2 airbags. These are inflated simultaneously with independent venturi valves.

Advantage: if one of the two 85-litre airbags is damaged, the second one will remain inflated long enough to save you from the avalanche, the other airbag keeps its efficiency.

Types of injuries

0% Spine and Cervical Spine

0.8% the torso

7.1% Arm Legs

5.1% Mild injuries, bruises

2.7% death rate.

84% without any injuries

Other information

ABS is the first active back-up system manufactured and tested by experts since 1985.

Double safety thanks to 2 airbags

Modern pneumatic pyrotechnic triggering for perfect reliability

Unlimited field of vision, freedom of movement to help you get out of the avalanche

Side Twinbags increase the stabilised bearing surface and increase the lift capacity, especially in the critical avalanche flow phase.

In 97% of cases the airbags are visible after the avalanche has stopped.

Reduced weight thanks to the lightweight ABS carbon cylinder

Easy to fold and ready for next use.

The Bottles

ABS takes responsibility for the filling of cylinders for the safety of its customers.

When a trigger is triggered, filling is done by standard nitrogen or argon exchange. Dry gas = no icing.

Stable over time and especially against temperature variations.

Carry out a check of the bottles by weighing at least twice a year. Up to 5 grams of difference are accepted.

No expiration date as long as the weight is correct.

The bottle can remain screwed to the system at all times.

If the bottle is removed, make sure it is screwed back on all the way to the stop.

Use ABS cylinders only with ABS systems

Removable Handle

When the handle is not connected to the system, the ABS system is 100% neutralized.

The handle can be replaced each time the engine is started, just like the bottle.

Make sure to adjust the handle height correctly.

Occasionally lubricate the quick coupling of the handle with the lubricant provided.

Strengths ofABS

25 years of experience + world-renowned statistics. Developments are the result of experience gained in the field in close collaboration with mountain professionals. According to the official SLF stats in Davos, Switzerland, 262 people triggered their ABS in avalanches and 255 came out alive.

2 Airbag = double safety

Extended airbag positioning: for increased stability in the snow stream

Pyrotechnic ignition no risk of icing or seizure in a casing

Removable / height adjustable handle

ABS is responsible for filling the bottle

Everyone can check the bottle at weighing: tolerance of +/- 5 grams.

Vario modular bag: patented concept awarded with an innovation prize at ISPO 2007. System for pros and amateurs.

Efficient after-sales service.

Simple mechanism = reliability

High quality material = 90% of the value of the system comes from Europe. Airbag manufactured by Zodiac.

In case of transport by plane it is strongly advised to put it in the hold (please call the airline before).
