Asolo Size Guide — Hiking, Trekking & Climbing Shoes

Asolo is an Italian brand founded in 1975 in Asolo (Treviso, Veneto). A global specialist in mountaineering and technical hiking footwear, Asolo is known for its Triple Power Structure™ soles, its 16 different anatomical shapes, and its European manufacturing. A pioneer in partnership with Vibram and Gore-Tex, the brand has equipped Himalayan expeditions since its inception.

Alpinstore Return Tips — Asolo

  • Asolo fits true to size according to UK/IT standards. However, the EU correspondences displayed by Asolo are slightly offset compared to usual European standards (Salomon, Merrell, KEEN): a UK 8 Asolo corresponds to an EU 42 Asolo but rather to an EU 42⅓ according to the norm. Always rely on the foot length in cm or the UK size when ordering.
  • If you come from another outdoor brand (Merrell, Salomon, La Sportiva, Scarpa), there is about a half size difference: if you wear an EU 42 in Salomon, order a UK 8 (EU 42 Asolo) rather than going up a size.
  • Wide Fit (+5 mm): available on several models (Fugitive GTX MW, TPS 535 LTH V MW, Freney Evo Mid MW…). If you have a wide forefoot, the Wide version is 5 mm wider than the standard version. Order your normal size in Wide (no need to go up a size).
  • Thick socks: if you plan to wear thick hiking socks or mountaineering socks, measure your foot with those socks or go up half a size.
  • Between two sizes: Asolo recommends taking the larger size. A toe touching the end of the shoe when descending causes blisters — always leave 1 cm of space in front of the longest toe.

7. Asolo FAQ

Does Asolo run small, large, or true to size?

Asolo fits true to UK/IT standards (“true to size”). The confusion comes from EU correspondences: Asolo uses fractions (EU 38⅓, EU 41⅓…) that do not exactly match the round EU sizes of other brands. If you wear an EU 42 in Salomon or Merrell, there is about a half size difference — preferably order based on your foot length in cm or your UK size. Based on UK: if you wear UK 8 in another outdoor brand, order UK 8 in Asolo.

What is the difference between TPS 520 and TPS 535?

Both models are made of full grain leather and belong to the Triple Power Structure family. The main difference: the TPS 520 GV Evo has a Gore-Tex Performance CF lining (maximum waterproofing) and is available in Wide Fit. The TPS 535 LTH V does not have a Gore-Tex membrane (Cambrelle lining) — designed for those who prioritize breathability in dry conditions and are willing to treat the leather regularly for waterproofing. The 535 is slightly softer and more comfortable to use. For wet use (Alps, Pyrenees, monsoon trekking), the 520 GV Evo is essential. For dry use (Himalayas, Andes, high altitude), the 535 may prove more pleasant.

How to break in a new pair of Asolo shoes?

Full grain leather Asolo shoes (TPS, Traverse…) require a break-in of 2 to 5 gradual outings before being fully comfortable. Step 1: wear them for 30–60 minutes in the city or on flat terrain. Step 2: 1–2 hours on an easy trail with light load. Step 3: outing of 4–6 hours on varied terrain. Avoid launching into a long hike with new shoes. Apply a waterproofing treatment (Grangers, Nikwax Wax) before the first outing on the leather.

Can my Asolo shoes be resoled?

Yes, almost all Asolo models (TPS, Traverse, Fugitive, Freney…) are resolable. This is indicated on each product sheet with the mention “Resolable: The model can get resoled”. Resoling is possible when the sole is worn but the upper and structure are still in good condition. Asolo recommends having your shoes resoled before the wear reaches the edge of the midsole. Expect to pay €50–80 for a complete resoling at a specialized mountain boots cobbler. This gives the shoe a complete second life.

Asolo size charts derived from official charts (asolo.com/en/content/8-find-your-size) and ASOLO USA. Foot lengths (cm) are body measurements (not the internal length of the shoe). Asolo EU correspondences use fractions (⅓, ½, ⅔) that are non-standard compared to competing European brands. The most reliable reference remains the foot length in cm or the UK size. All Asolo models are made in Europe (Italy + Romania) or Asia (indicated on each sheet). Weights are for a half pair (1 shoe).
