Two elders are leaving to cross the Pan-American Highway...

Estelle and Antoine are a couple in love with the Rhône Alpes region, the mountains and especially outdoor sports. Lovers of trail running, high line, acroyoga and the discovery of many nature sports, they share their adventures in pictures under the name of Outdoor Spirits (on Facebook, Instagram and their website).

This summer, Estelle and Antoine finished their studies and decided to leave for a year to explore the world before looking for a job, with as destination: the Pan-American Highway. Their goal is to link Canada to Argentina in a fully equipped vehicle, and to practice different outdoor sports in the many breathtaking landscapes of the three continents of America.

Why did you choose this destination?

The destination for this trip was not immediately obvious. We wanted to leave for 1 year but we didn't really know where, then the world offers so many destinations... We were a bit lost at the beginning. Then we did a lot of research, we talked to a lot of people. North America seemed to be a good fit for us but something was missing. So why not cross the 3 Americas (North, Central, South)? It was gone, we had our, our destinations to achieve the journey of our lives.

What sports do you play?

We like anything that brings us closer to the wildest and most natural places. Basically, all outdoor sports! If we can go canoeing, mountain biking or skiing, we don't hesitate! But we both have specificities:

Estelle practices a lot of trail running, and has run several of the great trail races in the region. She is also a ski instructor and is in the process of becoming a yoga teacher.

Antoine does a lot of slackline for her. This sport, which consists of walking on a strap stretched between two points (see video), allows her to discover often wild and varied spots.

We very often practice these sports in pairs, but they are still very individual sports. That's why we also practice acroyoga. This practice obliges us to have a perfect harmony between our bodies and our movements. If one of us makes a mistake, or if we communicate badly, it doesn't work, and this is what we like and helps us to know each other.

What equipment do you take with you?

To go on a trip for a year, and yes, it's getting ready! You have to think about everything (or almost everything) because if you forget, at the other side of the world it's always difficult to get something sent. It is therefore undeniable to have a good preparation to not forget anything and make your trip a success. Outdoor sports lovers = 120 kilos of equipment! It would have been more practical to take a pair of basketball and a swimsuit, but we decided to live our passions on the spot. Thanks to Alpinstore, we can bring a high-performance equipment with us.
