News Camp Via Ferrata
CAMP, manufacturer and actor in the protection of the person on the different mountain activities, and in particular the Via Ferrata activity, wishes to communicate and specify the new EN 958:2017 standard concerning energy absorbing systems used in via ferrata.
This evolution of the standard aims to improve protection for falls up to factor 5, for people in a weight range from 40 to 120 kg.
The main evolution lies in the maximum impact force of 3.5 kN for a mass of 40 kg and 6 kN for a mass of 120 kg, whereas previously there was only a maximum impact force of 6 kN for a mass of 80 kg.
The new KINETIC lanyards, proposed by CAMP, comply with this new standard (EN958:2017) and make it possible to practice Via Ferrata activity, with increased safety in case of fall, for all persons whose weight is between 40 kg without equipment and 120 kg with equipment.
The lifespan of these KINETIC lanyards increases to 10 years from the first use and 12 years from the date of manufacture (compared to 5 years for our VORTEX lanyards). However, an inspection, at least once a year, is mandatory.
All lanyards complying with the old version of the standard are still authorised for sale and use but will no longer be manufactured from 21 April 2019.
