Lange is a French brand founded in 1948 in Acton (Massachusetts) by Bob Lange, pioneers of the rigid plastic ski boot. Today owned by the Rossignol group, Lange is recognized for its competition boots (RS/Z range) and high-end all-mountain models. The new Shadow (2025–2026) and XT3 ranges define the current performance standard.

Lange junior boots (RSJ 50/60/65, Starlet 50/60) use a specific lighter and narrower shell designed for children's slim calves. The shell size does not change at every half size (2 Mondopoint sizes = 1 shell size).
LV = Low Volume (97 mm, narrow foot). MV = Medium Volume (100 mm, standard). HV = High Volume (102–104 mm, wide foot). GW = Grip Walk (compatible walking sole). BSL = Boot Sole Length (sole length in mm, for binding adjustment).

Weight is not the only criterion: a light but very technical and aggressive skier can wear a higher flex. A heavy but beginner skier will gain nothing from taking a high flex — on the contrary, the boot will be less responsive for them. A professional boot-fitter takes into account: weight, level, aggressiveness, practice volume, and goals.
Patented bi-material plastic in the outer boot. Combines a rigid PU core with a softer polyolefine shell. Provides a unique rebound and elasticity sensation, making edge engagement more accessible. Present on the high-end Shadow and XT3 ranges.
New internal architecture of Shadow boots 2025. A flexible blade between the sole and the shell stores bending energy and releases it in the turn. Reduces the effort needed to initiate the turn and improves force transmission to the ski.
Sole with front and rounded heel for normal walking without slipping off the slope. Compatible with GripWalk bindings and traditional bindings (with plates). MN (Multi Norm) standard = “GW” mention on the model.
Thermo-molding of the shell performed by a Lange certified boot-fitter. The shell is heated and then molded to the skier's foot for 10–15 minutes to eliminate pressure points. Available on Shadow, XT3, and LX ranges. Reduces the break-in period by 1–2 years.
Length of the sole in millimeters, necessary for binding adjustment. Two boots of the same Mondopoint size can have different BSLs depending on the model. Always adjust the binding with the actual BSL, not the Mondopoint. The BSL is indicated on each boot.
The shell of Lange junior boots uses a mono-material injection adapted to small feet: lighter, more flexible, and narrower than adult shells. The toes and heels are replaceable (RSJ 65+) to extend lifespan.
The width of the last is the most important information after flex. LV 97 mm: narrow foot with a slim forefoot, marked volume. Ideal for “performance” feet seeking maximum contact with the boot. MV 100 mm: standard width, suitable for 60–70% of skiers. If you wear street shoes without pain on the sides, this is probably your width. HV 102–104 mm: wide forefoot, thick foot or feet with bunions. If your street shoes often pinch on the sides, choose HV. A boot-fitter can measure your foot width with a dedicated measuring device.
The RX range (2012–2024) was Lange's all-mountain reference: classic 4-buckle shell, reliable, comfortable. The Shadow range (2025–2026) replaces it with two major innovations: the Suspension Blade (internal energy blade) and the Dual Pivot that change the flex dynamics. The Shadows produce a rebound in the turn that initiates edge engagement more actively. Skiers who push hard on the front of the boot will love it; those with a more balanced technique will need some adaptation time. The Shadows are compatible with the same bindings as the RX.
A new ski boot almost always generates discomfort at first. Step 1: ensure that the buckles are not too tight — tightening them hard does not compensate for a bad fit, it cuts off circulation. Step 2: after 2–3 days, the liner compresses by 5–10 mm and many pressure points disappear. Step 3: if the pain persists at a specific point, consult a Lange certified boot-fitter for shell thermo-molding or targeted grinding. If the pain is generalized (across the width), the boot may be too narrow — consider moving to the next width up (MV instead of LV, HV instead of MV).
Lange boots with the GW (Grip Walk) mention are compatible with standard ISO 5355 bindings (by adding adapter plates) AND with the new Grip Walk/Walk to Ride (WTR) bindings. Boots without the GW mention are only compatible with standard ISO 5355 bindings. The XT3 Free and XT3 Tour boots have an AT sole (ISO 9523 standard) compatible only with AT bindings (Marker, Tyrolia, Salomon STH2, Look Pivot with AT kit). Always check sole/binding compatibility before purchase.
Lange data based on lange.com, Next Adventure (official Lange size guide), Evo, Powder7, Realskiers (2026 Lange Boot Brand Profile), Powder Magazine (Shadow 130 LV review), Ski Bartlett. Mondopoint sizes correspond to foot length in cm. The BSL (Boot Sole Length, in mm) is necessary for binding adjustment and is different from the Mondopoint. Lange strongly advises a professional measurement by a certified boot-fitter for any ski boot purchase.
