The Opinel N°7 features a French beech handle and a Yatagan blade in 12C27 Sandvik stainless steel, designed specifically for Opinel. This blade, which is both corrosion-resistant and has an excellent cutting edge thanks to a carbon content of over 0.40%, was inspired by Turkish swords.

The beechwood handle, appreciated for its robustness and dark veined appearance, is varnished for added protection. The Opinel also features the Virobloc safety system, invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, which locks the blade both open and closed.
