Opinel: the Made in Savoie knife

The invention of the emblematic Opinel knife dates back to 1890, thanks to the expertise of Joseph Opinel, a Savoyard with a passion for new technologies and a knife maker by profession. Initiated into creating pocket knives for his family, Joseph Opinel decided to exploit the possibilities offered by modern machines to design an innovative pocket knife. Faced with its growing success, Opinel production quickly evolved into an industrial operation.

In 1909, Joseph Opinel formalized the brand by registering the distinctive "La Main Couronnée" hallmark, which was affixed to all the knives he produced. The brand became world-famous, supported by such renowned figures in adventure and cuisine as Marc Veyrat, eminent French chef, and Eric Tabarly, renowned yachtsman. Opinel sales hit record highs, exceeding 350,000 blades sold worldwide in the early 2010s.

A history of numbers!

Over the years, this small object has become an indispensable everyday accessory, featuring different sizes numbered from 1 to 12. Today, the original Opinel range continues, with the exception of models N°1 and N°11, which have been withdrawn from production. The collection has even been extended with the introduction of the N°13, a giant knife measuring 50 cm, affectionately nicknamed the "giant knife". Opinel's success continues to grow, making the brand an essential reference in the world of cutlery.

The Opinel N°08 is a classic in the stainless steel range. For over 130 years, it has continued to please all adventurers. It's a multi-purpose knife that will come in handy in any situation.
