Pebax® first appeared on the market in the 1980s. It is a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) providing elasticity and strength, developed by Arkema, a major global chemical player and specialist in high-performance materials. Boasting outstanding technical characteristics, this material is now widely used by Scarpa in the manufacture of cross-country ski boots and trail-running shoes. Pebax® Rnew® is the world's first biosourced TPE. Derived from castor seeds, it retains the exceptional properties of PEBAX®, notably lightness, resistance to flexion and elastic return, while taking an eco-design approach.
Scarpa was also a pioneer in 2007 when the company chose Pebax® Rnew® advanced biobased polymers for its footwear, thus maintaining a high level of performance and taking a step towards more sustainable sourcing of materials.
