ALPINE HEMP collection from Salewa – new material blends to naturally combine functionality and comfort on the summits

Those who climb must be able to trust. Trust in your climbing partner, in yourself, and in your equipment is the foundation of successful climbing. Hemp has a long tradition in the Alps, and Italy was once the largest producer of high-quality industrial hemp. With this new collection, SALEWA aims to stimulate a sustainable local circular economy, respecting natural resources. Since 2016, the mountain sports company has been striving to revive the tradition of hemp cultivation in Italy. 10% of the revenue generated by the Alpine Hemp collection will be reinvested in the local cultivation of this plant. Thus, knowledge and tradition will be brought back to life, and clothing meeting the strict requirements of this functional field will be produced. Thanks to innovative hybrid technologies, sustainability and functionality will add value to the Alpine Hemp collection. The result: the new Alpine Hemp collection. It combines natural fibers with Durastretch technology.

Hemp, recycled polyester fibers, and elastane have been blended into the newly developed Alpine Hemp ripstop fabric for more flexibility and freedom of movement. For shirts and leggings, SALEWA relies on Alpine Hemp jersey that combines hemp, organic cotton, and recycled polyester. The constructions provide the textiles with great breathability and abrasion resistance, as well as very high comfort and excellent elasticity.

With this collection, the climbing community will be delighted to indulge in their favorite sport. The models are also both understated and relaxed. In terms of colors, the Design Team draws on the naturally bright color palette of the Dolomites, the heart and soul of SALEWA.

The Alpine Hemp cargo short from Salewa is made from the brand new Alpine Hemp Ripstop Stretch material, a robust fabric containing 53% industrial hemp. Its hybrid construction combines hemp, recycled polyester, and elastane to provide breathability, freedom of movement, comfort, and freshness in a close-fitting cut. Weighing only 260 grams, this lightweight and comfortable short will accompany climbers from indoor training to mountain practice.
