Gilles and Gatien are recognized experts in the field of concentrated solar energy, with over 25 years of experience, from solar thermal power plants to the design of small products such as solar lighters. They are convinced that concentrated solar power is one of the most important energy sources of the 3rd millennium and are spreading this efficient, available, free and environmentally friendly energy with conviction and passion.

Solar Brother was born out of the enthusiasm of Gilles Gallo, who decided to develop concentrated solar thermal technology and in particular solar cooking after seeing that women spent a third of their time and families a third of their budget on wood for cooking during a trip to Timbuktu in 2003. Gilles has been involved in the solar thermal family for over 20 years and is one of the major players in concentrated solar technology in Europe. With Gatien Brault, engineer and partner, they created Solar Brother to democratize this technology by designing and distributing a range of simple, designed and efficient solar products. They also built their business model in a spirit of co-creation by making available open-source self-build plans to broaden the knowledge of solar energy to as many people as possible. Solar Brother has 20 years of experience in the dissemination and use of concentrated solar energy to promote sustainable living. The company was awarded the "Entreprise solidaire d'utilité sociale" in June 2022, recognizing its commitment to pursuing a socially useful objective. Solar Brother shares its know-how in open source by distributing the plans necessary for the self-building of solar products, thus encouraging a creative community accessible to all. In addition, the company designs Do It Yourself (DIY) products and provides expert advice to help build these products. Solar Brother also uses solar education to introduce the younger generation to the efficiency of solar energy by designing a mini-cooker suitable for children, which it distributes to kindergartens and elementary school in partnership with the Graine d'Espoir association.

In addition, Solar Brother regularly organizes collective cooking demonstrations with chefs in partnership with the association "Les Festins Photoniques", and supports the development of solar cooking in Africa by providing self-build plans, mirror equipment and specific support for the establishment of manufacturing workshops, thus allowing for an adapted labor cost for the local market. In terms of environmental impact, Solar Brother is committed to minimizing its impact, both in terms of manufacturing location and product design, by using recycled and/or recyclable materials and working towards zero waste use and manufacturing.

The company also offers eco-designed and durable products, paying particular attention to the selection of specific materials and repair-friendly design to extend their useful life. Finally, Solar Brother donates a minimum of 1% of its annual sales to fund the promotion of concentrated solar power and encourage its use.
