BioLite: a company with a mission

Our mission is to empower people while preserving the planet through access to renewable energy. We see this as the most important challenge of our time, and are committed to providing 20 million people by 2025 with clean, reliable ways to cook, recharge and light their daily lives.

Our business model, which we call "Parallel Innovation", is based on bringing together two distinct types of customer with a common need for off-grid energy: on the one hand, outdoor recreationists looking to power their adventures, and on the other, families living in emerging markets where the power grid is unavailable or unreliable. Our team of engineers and designers work on core technologies that can be adapted to meet the needs of each group, creating user-focused, durable and highly efficient products. By leveraging information from around the world, every customer benefits from the end result.

When it comes to our environmental impact, BioLite is proud to be certified as a climate-neutral company. This means we actively measure, reduce and offset our carbon footprint every year. We believe that to achieve a carbon-neutral future, companies must take responsibility for their carbon emissions today, and put a real price on manufacturing and marketing their products around the world.

A commitment to serving the world

BioLite designs affordable, sustainable products that harness the energy of the environment to cook, recharge and light up the daily lives of off-grid households. Our goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by 3 million tons by 2025.

Based in Nairobi, Kenya, the BioLite Emerging Markets (EM) team works closely with key partners in 23 countries to provide last-mile distribution, training and financing for remote customers.

Access to electricity is limited for over 1.2 billion people. This forces households to rely on dangerous and costly energy sources that have a huge impact on daily life: time and finances, connectivity, lighting, health and climate.

Beyond an immediate task, access to energy creates a cascade of effects on how customers use their time and money.
