The Kestrel 38 is designed for short- to medium-term itinerant trips or adventures that require carrying a moderate amount of gear. This roomy backpack provides sufficient volume for two-day adventures. Access to your gear is facilitated by a large zippered side opening that extends from the flap to the compression straps at the bottom of the bag. The bag thus benefits from a very practical entry point for finding your belongings in the blink of an eye. The Kestrel 38 also features access under the top flap with drawstring closure, as well as a lower sleeping bag compartment with removable divider.
The Kestrel's back system has been designed with comfort and stability in mind, featuring a proven AirScape back panel, a sturdy waist belt and shoulder straps that allow you to carry a heavy load comfortably. Its adjustable design lets you easily customize the height of the back panel using the hook-and-loop system at shoulder blade level.
The Kestrel 38 is packed with compartments for all your backpacking gear, including reinforced nylon water bottle pockets, two zipped waist pockets, a large front tote pocket, a pocket in the top flap, another under the top flap with a key ring, and a hydration pocket accessible from the outside.

The Kestrek 38 from Osprey is a really well-designed hiking backpack. It's almost perfect. I recommend it with my eyes closed. The Kestrel 38 will suit day hikers who like to fill up their backpack, as well as itinerant hikers who spend a weekend bivouacking or a few days in a refuge, as I did.
