Northern Feather, established in 1901, was the first Danish company to focus entirely on the production of down and feathers. Over the years, the company has grown from a simple trading company to one that creates its own products such as comforters, pillows and quilts. Today, Northern Feather is a major player in the global down and feather market.

In 1967, Nordisk Freizeit was founded as a subsidiary of Northern Feather to focus on the growing outdoor market. In the 1970s and 1980s, Nordisk played an important role in building the European outdoor sector with its own companies in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and the UK, as well as through the Caravan brand. Nordisk and Caravan quickly became major players in the industry, known for their innovative and fashionable products.

In 1991, we changed our brand name to Nordisk, as a tribute to our history and heritage. Although we remain a European brand, in recent years we have also expanded beyond the European continent, with Nordisk products now available in distant countries such as Japan and Korea.

Down is the largest, lightest and most effective natural insulation material known to man. It is composed of intricate structures with thousands of super soft keratin filaments that grow radially outward from a tiny center, keeping waterfowl warm all winter while being light enough to fly.

In addition to the fact that down insulation will keep you warmer and lighter than any synthetic alternative, it also compresses much better, giving you more room in your bag and a lighter feel for flying. We strive to create the best possible sleeping bags with the smallest possible footprint.

However, to ensure animal welfare and sustainability along with a world-class sleeping experience, we believe it's essential to own the process. That's why we handcraft each down sleeping bag in our own factory in Germany, using only recycled and traceable European down - a method we've employed for over 40 years.

At Nordisk, we are actively committed to reducing and eliminating the use of chemicals in our products and production process. We strive to use materials and chemicals that are as environmentally friendly and non-harmful as possible, from the preparation of the raw materials to their use by the end consumer. We have two main goals: to reduce PVC content and to use recycled materials as much as possible. We have launched award-winning products, such as the Bering and Oscar sleeping bag, which are filled with high-quality recycled fiber from plastic bottles.

We produce in many different countries and therefore need a global code of conduct to ensure that everyone involved in production meets the agreed standards. We have established long-term relationships with our suppliers and work with them to ensure that the standards are implemented and met. We are members of the BSCI to ensure professional development of our cooperations.

We have introduced strict standards for the use of organic and green cotton in our Legacy range, which includes all our cotton tents. GOTS plays a central role in the development, control and audit of our organic cotton production. We are actively working to expand this range and to ensure a high standard in the use of organic cotton throughout the value chain.
