Kohla, founded in 1932 in Austria, embodies mountaineering excellence with its innovative, durable products, over 80% of which are made in Tyrol, combining tradition and modernity.

Kohla was founded in Innsbruck in 1932 by Max Kohla. Even then, it was clear that the company would focus primarily on mountaineering products " made in Tyrol ". The headquarters' location in the heart of the Alps laid the foundations for the first products: backpacks, poles and hunting equipment were the first items manufactured in Tyrol by Max Kohla KG. After several years of development, the first nylon backpacks were produced, and the use of aluminum revolutionized pole construction. In the 1970s, these innovations made the "Kohla" brand the epitome of mountaineering. Kohla not only developed its own specific products, but also sold customized models to renowned manufacturers. In the late 1970s, the first aluminum telescope poles were introduced to the market. This means that not only do we have a wealth of experience in mast construction, but we have also been producing telescope masts in Tyrol to the highest quality standards for over 40 years.

In 2003, the Span brothers from the Tyrolean Stubaital took over the"Kohla" brand, staff and production and created the new Ibex Sportartikel GmbH - a completely restructured company with over 20 years' experience in development, production and distribution. The portfolio has been reduced to the essentials. We develop, produce and test our products in Tyrol and, thanks to the short distances involved, are able to respond quickly to customer feedback and incorporate it into our products.

Numerous awards over the last few years - including two ISPO Awards (2013/14 and 2015/16 ) - confirm that we're on the right track and further encourage us to produce the best national mountaineering equipment. We can proudly say that we are one of the few brands in the mountaineering sector to manufacture more than 80% of its products in Tyrol or Austria, and thus make a substantial contribution to environmental protection as well as to the support of our staff.
