Solar was founded in 1958 and has been directly associated with the greatest skiers of the 1960s and the biggest stars of the 1970s. Imagined in the city of Annecy by 3 friends: Gaston Beauchef, Georges Bourguignon and Mr Perradin whose dream was to patent glasses. The story of the brand began when one of them picked up a broken eyeglass frame on the pavement.

The craze for the frame enabled them to produce a first model of glasses and to make nearly 1 million francs in sales. This is how the SOLAR premises were bought and expanded following the real success of the products. To date, all stages of the production chain are present in the building in Annecy, which allows it to defend the "made in France" side. This will even be rewarded with an Oscar awarded by the^Prime Minister, Valéry Giscard d'Estaing.

As the years go by, the popularity of the brand grows. As a result, the range expanded and Solar not only became the official supplier to the French national ski team, but also became the largest sunglass manufacturer in Europe at the end of the 1970s.

Despite the brand's disappearance from its international public for many years, Solar was bought by the Julbo brand in 2016. Specialist in sunglasses for more than 100 years, Julbo launches the rebirth of Solar in 2017.
