A brand of hiking boots 100% "Made In Europe

In many countries, such as the USA, it is required to indicate the origin of a product. In Europe, there is no such requirement. However, Hanwag mentions the country where the product was made, as shown by the "Made In Croatia" label.

As with many products, hiking boots are the result of the assembly of different components. In today's global economy, these individual or prefabricated elements often come from different countries. So, to which country can the product's origin be attributed?

According to European Union customs regulations, two aspects are taken into account:

The last country to make a substantial contribution is indicated on the product.

A value of at least 45% must be added to the product during the manufacturing process. This applies to both aspects: manufacturing and the materials used, as well as the work carried out on them.

In theory, this means that Hanwag could import leather from Asia, assemble the soles in Europe and label them "Made In Germany". However, Hanwag does not take this approach. Their commitment remains: Hanwag shoes and boots are made entirely in Europe.

Hanwag materials also come from Europe

Most of their raw materials and specific components come from Europe. However, one of the few exceptions is the yak leather they use, sourced from Mongolia. It's worth noting that even this yak leather is processed in Germany and transformed for the manufacture of our shoes in their facilities in Hungary and Croatia.

In this way, Hanwag is able to claim that its products are entirely made in Europe.
