TATONKA - A German outdoor brand and a family business

" At Tatonka, we design products for nature lovers, and we do it with passion, creativity and perseverance, with definite success. " Andreas Schechinger, owner and managing director of Tatonka GmbH. The TATONKA outdoor equipment brand was created and registered worldwide in 1993. Shortly afterwards, in 1994, the family business Mountain Sport GmbH, founded in 1980, was renamed Tatonka GmbH. For over 30 years, we have been the only manufacturer of outdoor equipment to produce all our products completely and transparently. The TATONKA brand takes its name from the Bavarian bison,"TATONKA" meaning bison in the Sioux language. The inspiration came from the famous film "Dances with Wolves". For Native Americans, the bison is a sacred animal, symbolizing nature, freedom, wildness and strength. It also embodies determination and willpower within a herd. As a brand of outdoor equipment, we fully identify with these characteristics.

Tatonka GmbH is a German family business based in Dasing, near Augsburg. We value a flat organizational structure, short and efficient decision-making processes, and personal contact with our employees and customers. Our Dasing site houses our development department, management and distribution warehouse. Our products are manufactured in our exclusive factories in Vietnam. Tatonka GmbH employs around 1,000 people worldwide.

A committed company

Tatonka stands out for its integrated manufacturing, carried out in-house from design to production, with facilities in Vietnam operated to European standards since 1989. This integration allows total process control, the flexibility to make rapid adjustments, and the management of new developments. In addition, Tatonka highlights the transparency of its manufacturing through open visits to its Ho Chi Minh City factory, reinforcing its social responsibility towards its employees in Vietnam.

The company has also held SA8000 certification since 2011, confirming its commitment to social standards and renewed every three years. The company uses high-quality materials and has a repair service to ensure the durability of its products. Tatonka's philosophy is based on responsibility, fairness, honesty, and the aspiration for a more sustainable approach both commercially and ecologically.

Green by TATONKA: Responsible commitment - Sustainable approach

Our "GREEN" label makes it easier for you to choose Tatonka products that incorporate sustainable materials. Although these materials are not always used 100% in line with the latest technologies, they do represent an environmentally-friendly option. We are constantly striving to improve them through new developments. Our aim is togradually increase the range of products we offer in the "GREEN" category.

Items bearing the "GREEN" label contain both recycled materials such as recycled polyester and recycled polyamide, and textiles made from renewable, biodegradable and recyclable raw materials such as wool, organic cotton and kapok. Our selection of eco-friendly materials is constantly updated to reflect the latest technological advances. We strive to increase the proportion of recycled materials wherever possible, and to replace old products with sensible, organic alternatives to existing petroleum-based fabrics. Of course, our high quality standards also apply to products bearing the "GREEN" label.
