The appeal is obvious: speed hiking is easy to do, it can be done almost anywhere, it has physical and spiritual benefits, and it's a simple and healthy way to get closer to nature. Salewa, the South Tyrolean mountain sports brand, recognizes the great potential of this modern mountain sport discipline. For summer 2023, it presents 'Pedroc', its revisited collection for speed hiking that combines traditional materials and innovative functional fabrics with technical solutions and reinterpreted cuts.

Pedroc - Salewa's new speed hiking collection for summer 2023

The new Pedroc outfit from Salewa's speed hiking collection consists of lightweight, weather-resistant, breathable and quick-drying styles for men and women, as well as shoes and a backpack. "The Pedroc collection combines the technical aspects of mountain sports products with lighter, athletic performance-oriented elements, resulting in a clothing concept that is ideal for speed hiking," explains Creative Director Thomas Moe.
High-end components such as Polartec® active insulation, YKK zippers, and nylon/tencel hybrid fabric blends underscore the technical aspect of the collection. And common creative elements reinforce the collection's aesthetic appeal. The hybrid constructions of the models are based on the concept of body mapping, with perforated fabrics and precise finishes for quick and easy handling in the mountains, which once again demonstrates the innovative orientation of this new clothing concept. The collection will be available in stores from spring 2023.
The launch of the collection is also accompanied by a video shot in the Dolomites (Italy), Nice (France), Singapore and Boulder, Colorado (USA). The video will be available for viewing on YouTube starting in April.

Speed hiking means moving fast, but at your own pace. It's about seeing how far you can go in a short period of time. The focus is on the health benefits and the fun, not just the physical performance. Speed hiking is a unifying sport. For young and old, the athletic and the less athletic. Speed hiking doesn't have to involve long journeys or sleeping somewhere. You don't have to go far to find wilderness, beauty and simplicity. Your next adventure could start right out of work or on your doorstep. Creativity and simplicity are the watchwords here. At first, it may be wise to choose shorter trails that will allow you to backtrack and gradually increase your distances traveled.

The new Pedroc 2.5L PTX Light jacket was designed to allow speed hikers to ride mountain tours, especially demanding routes. The jacket is lightweight (190 grams), compact for easy packability, and offers good weather protection and breathability. To achieve this feat, Salewa's development team used high-quality fabrics, such as the PFC-free 2.5-layer Powertex laminated membrane. Thanks to its high-quality specifications, the Pedroc 2.5 L jacket is waterproof, windproof, yet highly breathable, so that perspiration can evaporate quickly to the outside. Essential, functional features include an elastic storm hood, one-handed hem adjustment and stretchy cuffs for an easy fit during activity. Reflective finishes add extra visibility and safety.

The ideal backpack is one that you can wear throughout a fast-paced activity on rough terrain without even realizing it. The Pedroc Pro 22L backpack is light to carry and close to the body. Salewa designed this 570 gram bag specifically for speed hiking. Its close carrying system makes you almost forget you're wearing it.
