A brand member of the Bluesign label

But what does the BlueSign label mean? It is an international label for textiles that guarantees that no toxic and carcinogenic substances are used during the production of the products. In addition, very precise criteria are set for the consumption of water, air quality and energy.

The control is carried out by the independent control organization SGS.

Labeled as of 2012

Established at the foot of the Dolomites for more than 80 years, a UNESCO heritage site, the Sportiva has a strong social and environmental responsibility. The methodologies and work processes are low environmental impact. The company has always placed the relationship with the environment as a priority, seeking an approach that is as environmentally friendly as possible.

Since its entry in the clothing sector in 2012, Sportiva has implemented procedures to certify the textile production chain according to the socio-environmental criteria defined by Bluesign. From the 2014/2015 season, the brand will introduce the first products entirely Bluesign.

Partner of the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA)

EOCA is a non-profit association to support charitable initiatives aimed at environmental conservation. The two entities establish a partnership in 2013. 109 companies are now part of the association and, through a jury appointed by EOCA, evaluate the environmental projects most deserving of support.

In line with La Sportiva's philosophy, as evidenced by the ISO 14001 environmental certification in 2003, the use of water-based adhesives for the production of footwear at the Ziano di Fiemme manufacturing site, the extensive use of solar and photovoltaic panels for the maintenance of the head office and membership in Bluesign, the certification system for the production chain.

What happens to the waste resulting from the production process?

In the production of mountain boots and climbing boots, a small percentage of the material coming out of the manually operated cutting benches can no longer be used in the production process and therefore represents the most important production waste.

Rubber is a complex material, chemically obtained by substances called elastomers mixed together to obtain different degrees of elasticity, adhesion and hardness: such complexity does not facilitate the elimination of the material in the standard production process and also requires the use of scraps in the production cycles of other products and sectors, for which these remains can be a valuable raw material.

To date, however, although there are still simple and quick ways to reuse rubber waste, the company has equipped itself with recycling systems that ensure the reuse of about 50% of the waste in other production processes.

Most of this waste is recovered and reused, as in the paving of the playground of the elementary school in Alassio (Savona) or in the realization of the synthetic turf of the sports complex "la Meridiana" in Catania.

A responsible approach to the environment is first and foremost a state of mind that must be able to push the continuous search for sustainable methods and processes. Today, innovating with passion, a mission contained in La Sportiva's pay-off, is also and above all all all this.production chain.
