As an avid mountain sports enthusiast, it's crucial to make sure your equipment is in top condition, and that includes safety devices like Avalanche Victim Detectors (AVDs). At AlpinStore, we understand the importance of safety in the mountains, which is why we implement a thorough avalanche transceiver overhaul process to ensure the reliability of your equipment.

Why is an avalanche transceiver service crucial?

Emergency locator transmitters are vital tools in alpine sports. In the event of an avalanche, these devices can mean the difference between life and death. However, like all electronic equipment, they require regular maintenance to keep them in good working order. An avalanche transceiver overhaul ensures that all components are in perfect working order, maximizing their performance when they're really needed.

Which avalanche transceivers are eligible for overhaul?

For the 2023/2024 winter season, we offer complete overhaul of MAMMUT brand (Barryvox, Barryvox S, Element, Pulse) and ARVA brand (Evo3+, Evo4, Evo5, AXIO, Pro W, Neo, Neo+, NEO PRO) avalanche transceivers.

2. Full inspection, functional tests & software updates

Once we receive your DVA, our team of experts performs a thorough initial inspection in our workshops, following a strict, defined process laid down by the brand. This includes a visual examination of the exterior, as well as an evaluation of the internal components according to a precise protocol using a specific, official MAMMUT tester.

Each avalanche transceiver undergoes a series of rigorous functional tests. We make sure that all functions, such as search and transmit, are operational. Range tests are also carried out to ensure that your avalanche transceiver can be detected effectively in real-life situations.

Our avalanche transceivers are equipped with integrated software to constantly improve their performance. During the overhaul process, we ensure that your avalanche transceiver benefits from the latest available software updates, guaranteeing optimum compatibility with other equipment and maximum responsiveness.

3. Return to owner

Once your DVA has passed all tests and checks, we return it safely to your address. You will also receive a detailed overhaul report, informing you of the work carried out and the general condition of your device.

Please note that in the event of a serious fault detected during one of these checks, we will send your device to Mammut in Germany for the necessary repairs.

ARVA Equipment recommends that its units be serviced at the following intervals:

- For standard use (< 60 days/year): every 3 years.

- For intensive/professional use (> 60 days/year): annually, and at least every 2 years.

2. Full inspection, functional tests & software updates

Once we have received your avalanche transceiver, it will be sent to the ARVA manufacturer for a complete overhaul.

The overhaul procedure comprises fifteen checkpoints, including frequency, transmission and reception tests, checking the buttons, display and battery contacts, as well as the possibility of updating the unit if necessary. In the event of a system failure, such as an ARVA transmission or reception fault, the device will be unusable and will not be returned to its owner.

Instead, the customer will be presented with a commercial offer for the purchase of a new, functional device.

3. Return to owner

As with MAMMUT, if your avalanche transceiver has passed all the tests and checks, it will be safely returned to you. You will also receive a detailed overhaul report, informing you of the work carried out and the general condition of your device.

At AlpinStore, the safety of our customers is our top priority. Regular servicing of Mammut avalanche transceivers and avalanche transceivers is an integral part of our commitment to mountain safety.
